Job Title: Senior Community Outreach Officer


Responsible to: Advice Manager


Working hours: 12hrs a week, equivalent to two days per week (flexible).


Working Location: Hybrid working - office-based and out in the community.


Salary: £13 per hour for 12 hours a week.


Contract Type: Self-employed.


Start: As soon as possible.


About Our Organisation:
The Middle Eastern Women and Society organisation (MEWSo) is a charity run by women for women from black and ethnic minority backgrounds. We are currently looking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our advice department, to support vulnerable Kurdish women in the London Borough of Westminster.


Position Overview:
Reporting to the Advice Manager, the post holder will be responsible for providing front-line support for our service users, most of them are victims of domestic abuse or living in complex situations.

 

The right candidate must be able to communicate in Kurdish aside from English and provide a high-quality advice service that meets the Middle Eastern Women and Society Organisation standards and policies. They will have a thorough understanding of welfare and domestic abuse issues and be able to provide emotional and practical support.


The successful candidate would provide focus groups for the women and take part in community outreach. The ideal candidate will also know how to use the Advice Pro case management system.


Key Responsibilities
Outreach and Engagement:

  • Actively engage with Kurdish-speaking women in the community of Westminster to build relationships and trust.

  • Organise and participate in community events, workshops, and focus groups to promote women's rights and gender equality.

 

Support and Advocacy:

  • Provide emotional support and information to women facing various challenges, such as domestic violence, discrimination, and access to welfare and healthcare. 

  • Advocate for the rights and needs of Kurdish-speaking women within Westminster.

 

Resource Coordination:

  • Connect women with essential resources, including legal assistance, counselling, language services, and educational opportunities.

  • Assist in identifying and developing resources tailored to the specific needs of Kurdish-speaking women.

 

Focus Groups:

  • Plan and facilitate focus groups on a monthly basis for Kurdish women based in Westminster.

 

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of interactions and services provided to women in the community.

  • Use of AdvicePro.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of women's rights, gender equality, and the unique challenges faced by Kurdish-speaking women, especially within the London Borough of Westminster.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport within the community.

  • Fluency in Kurdish and English (both written and spoken).

  • Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the Kurdish community's dynamics and traditions.

  • Previous experience in community outreach, social work, or a related field is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of MEWSo.
